Fragmentarium fellowship
A Zeno Karl Schindler / Fragmentarium Fellowship has been awarded to Dr Vito Santoliquido in order to study maculature in the van Buchell collection in Utrecht University Library. Under the joint supervision of Malcolm Walsby of Enssib and Bart Jaski of the University of Utrecht, the work looks to identify the manuscripts cut up and reused in the bindings of the books owned by Hubert van Buchell – the vast majority of which are Sammelbände.
The maculature to be analysed as part of this fellowship will look at what is probably one the largest collections of medieval manuscript fragments in the books of a single individual. Most of these fragments came from the manuscripts of St Mary’s Church, where van Buchell served as a canon.
As well as providing valuable information for the Fragmentarium database, the work will also help understand and contextualise the creation of the Sammelbände and the references added to the Sammelband 15-16 database. It is hoped this will provide a starting point for further collaboration between the projects
